Procedure of the Month: Procedures Best for this Season

What are the best procedures to do this time of year?

As we transition from Summer to Fall, many patients find this time of year the perfect opportunity to schedule a surgical procedure. As we move into sweater weather, we typically see procedures being done that can be covered with winter wear. These would include Arm Lifts, Liposuction, Tummy Tucks, and Breast procedures.

An Arm Lift addresses the excess skin and fatty tissue on the back of the arm. Many patients complain about their clothing fit and it is often referred to as “Batwings”. This procedure is easily tolerated and done in an outpatient surgical center. The downtime is typically one week from work and two to three weeks from exercise. Compression sleeves are worn for three to four weeks after surgery.

Liposuction is used to address excess fatty tissues that are not able to be controlled with diet and exercise. This procedure can be done on most places of the body but is typically used on the thighs, hips, stomach, and back. Liposuction 360 is a common term used to address areas surrounding the mid-section. Liposuction is done as an outpatient procedure with most patients returning to work in 5-7 days and returning to exercise in 1-2 weeks. Often a compression garment is worn to manage swelling.

Breast procedures include reductionsaugmentations, and lifts. A reduction may be covered by insurance if specific criteria are met that are set forth by the insurance provider. These are all outpatient procedures with variable downtimes that can be discussed with the surgeon during a consultation. One thing Dr. Antimarino does not do is talk about cup sizes. He will discuss balance and fullness to the breast in proportion to the patient’s body.

Tummy Tuck is used to address excess skin on the abdominal wall and muscle wall laxity. This procedure is often combined with liposuction to address excess fatty areas. A Tummy Tuck is done as an outpatient procedure. Patients are typically back to work in 2-3 weeks and can resume exercise in 3 weeks. An abdominal binder is worn for 4-5 weeks post-surgery.

Cooler weather gives us the opportunity to cover areas of the body that we might want to address with cosmetic surgery. Research should be done prior to a consultation so you know the surgeon meets your criteria providing you with optimum results.
