Arm Lift: 3 Tips to Get Your Best Results
Posted April 22, 2024
An Arm Lift is a procedure that reshapes the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat. It can be safely combined with liposuction for greater contour results if necessary. An incision is made on the inner aspect of the arm extending from the elbow to an area behind the armpit. There is minimal pain associated with this procedure. No external stitches are used so the stitches will resolve on their own at approximately 6-8 weeks. Drains are used but are removed at the first post-operative visit, usually around 4 days from your surgical date. The recovery timeline is typically back to exercise in 3 weeks, with most patients returning to work in a week.
Tip #1: Wear your post-operative compression sleeves as directed.
They will need to be worn consistently for three weeks and then only when exercising for another 2-3 weeks. The garments are helpful in decreasing swelling and providing support during the early healing process.
Tip #2: No exercising for 3 weeks.
Exercising can increase swelling and the risk of bleeding in the early postoperative phase.
Tip #3: Gentle massage of the arms and scars
Patients can begin massaging the arms and scars at approximately 4 weeks or when instructed to do so by the surgeon. Patients can expect mild residual swelling for up to 6-8 weeks after the procedure so gentle massage can help to resolve the swelling. Massaging before the 4th week can be associated with an increase in pain as the healing process has not progressed far enough for manipulation of the scar.
