How can I achieve a fresh and well-rested look without surgery?
Posted July 21, 2017
L.V. from Pittsburgh asks: I feel like I am beginning to look as old as I feel. I am not ready for surgery and truthfully, not even sure how I feel about it. I would like to soften my look but I worry that my face will look different or everyone will know I had something done. Is there anything you would suggest to help me look fresh and well-rested?
Dr. Antimarino:
Thank you so much for your question. This is a common concern for women as they begin to age physically but maintain a youthful spirit. As our culture has become more focused on staying active, eating right and exercising, I often hear patients say they want to look as good as they feel.
The fear of looking unrecognizable is also a common concern as patients are not looking to change their appearance, merely soften and enhance their features.
Non-surgical options such as Botox or injectables may be the perfect solution for your dilemma. They are affordable, minimally invasive and can instantly erase years off your face. Depending on the type of injectable chosen, these treatments can be used to smooth, contour or plump various areas of the face to achieve a better aesthetic balance without the need for more invasive plastic surgery. The results are immediate and may last anywhere from a few months to a few years.
Botox injections are used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles that form across the forehead, around the eyes and the mouth by temporarily weakening the muscles that create them.
Dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Vollure, and Volbella are used to plump thin lips, restore volume to sagging cheeks and create definition to problem areas which will result in more youthful symmetry to the face.
Injections should only be performed by a licensed, registered practitioner at a certified medical spa. Even though injections may not be as invasive as a surgical procedure, care should be taken to find a provider who is educated, experienced, and makes your comfort a priority.
