New year, New Goals!
Mom’s all over Pittsburgh have been jumping on the “mommy makeover” train, and for good reason. Here are just a few:
- You’re done having children and are having trouble getting your body back in shape as quickly as you would like.
- You’ve been trying to get your pre-pregnancy body back for a while through exercise, but the results just aren’t quite meeting your expectations.
- You’re noticing a lot of excess skin on your postpartum body.
- You want to look as good as you feel.
- You have been thinking about the surgery for a while, and you landed on this blog article.
What is a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover is a surgical option for moms that want to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back by combining a few procedures into one. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons defines it as the three below:
The American Board of Plastic Surgery says the major three areas focused on related to the Mommy Makeover are the breasts, abdomen, and genitalia.
Can you define the procedures in a mommy makeover?
Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Antimarino, defines a Mommy Makeover as a combination procedure that typically includes a breast procedure (lift and/or augmentation) with a belly procedure (liposuction and/or tummy tuck). During your initial consultation, Dr. Antimarino will help you choose the correct procedures for your desired results.
Breast lifts are performed to correct sagging of the breasts and decreased elasticity of the skin. A breast lift, done as part of a Mommy Makeover, focuses on re-establishing the proper position of the breast.
In contrast, a breast augmentation as part of a mommy makeover procedure focuses more on enhancing a woman’s volume and shape postpartum.
Liposuction involves surgically removing fat deposits with a small cannula that may have formed on your stomach, hips, or thighs during pregnancy.
A tummy tuck is done by making an incision along the bikini line, thus allowing your doctor to “pull down” and tighten your skin and muscles.
A Tummy Tuck and liposuction may both be performed as part of your mommy makeover.
A labiaplasty addresses the changes that may have occurred to your labia during childbirth or as a result of hormonal changes. The excess tissue is surgically removed and repaired to reshape the labia and return it to its pre-pregnancy shape. Dr. Antimarino can include this procedure as part of your Mommy Makeover.
Who should get a mommy makeover?
Any mom that has had a baby six or more months ago is a candidate! If you feel like you just can’t get your body back to where you want it after pregnancy, then this may be just the solution for you.
How soon can I start resuming normal mom duty after having a mommy makeover?
The recovery time is light activity for 2-3 weeks and back to full activity by 6-8 weeks.
Dr. Antimarino understands that “Mom’s have to be mom’s” and routine childcare is not an issue in the recovery process.
