Four Facts about a Mommy Makeover Procedure
Posted April 25, 2018
You don’t have to be a mom to have a “Mommy Makeover.”
“Mommy Makeover” is a term used to describe a combination procedure that corrects and recontours the breast and abdomen at the same time. The term was coined because it classically restores the effects of pregnancy on a woman’s body. Typically, the surgery consists of a tummy tuck and a breast augmentation, however; it can include any surgery to restore the contour and volume to the breast as well as a procedure such as liposuction or a tummy tuck to address the stomach.
How long do results last?
The results of a Mommy Makeover should be long lasting; however, weight gain or future pregnancies can decrease the longevity of the results. It is recommended that a woman wait until she is finished having children and breastfeeding before considering this procedure. If a pregnancy or large weight gain occurs, there may be surgical touch-ups required later to maintain the initial desired results.
What about stretch marks?
Stretch marks can be removed with a Mommy Makeover but only if they are located between the belly button and pubic area. Stretch marks are the result of rapid overstretching of the skin during weight gain and pregnancy. At this time there is no cure for stretch marks but there are modalities such as lasers that may improve their color.
A Mommy Makeover procedure does not have a difficult recovery process.
Most women are ambulatory by the end of the day after their surgical procedure and require approximately two weeks off work and exercise. There is mild to moderate pain associated with the procedure although most women complain of a “tightness” rather than a specific pain. Moms can still function as a “mom” after surgery; however, they need to be conscious of their activity level and strain to their body.
