January 2020 Q & A: Eve’s Botox Experience
Posted December 18, 2019
As I approached my 40th birthday last year, I realized I was probably the last of my friends who hadn’t at least dipped her foot into the waters of plastic surgery. Truth be told, I never considered it. I’ve always been confident in my appearance (generally), but as time passed and my late 20’s turned into my late 30’s and those little lines that I once thought “cute” deepened around my eyes and mouth, I started to stare down that big birthday through a different set of eyes.
A good friend who was a Botox and filler pro by 39 advised me to give it a try and sold me on the benefits she had seen along with how her confidence seems to skyrocket each time she steps foot out of her “secret appointment.” Being the natural worrier I am, I scoured the internet searching for horror stories and botched treatments, droopy eyelids and allergic reactions and while I did find a select few (do NOT buy Botox with a Groupon) I was pleased to find mostly success stories and decided to give it a try. Afterall, the results were temporary and if I truly hated it – it would eventually fade away in 4-6 months.
My first visit to a local medi spa was 2 weeks prior to my 40th birthday. I had a vacation planned with friends to celebrate and from what I had read, the Botox full effect would take approximately 2 weeks to have me looking fresh-faced and 25 (ish) by my big trip.
After my first Botox experience, I waited almost a year to try it again. My goals going into my first appointment for my skin were very clear. My forehead lines after a year had seemed to grow deeper and my lines around my eyes were deepening as well. As someone who enjoys wearing makeup, I found it to be settling into my fine lines as the day wore on and any sort of powder, blush or highlighter would almost magnify them in certain lights. However, I knew I didn’t want that “sheet of glass” look or “frozen” look. Some faint lines were okay with me, as long as the result looked natural. I, by nature, am a very expressive person and I didn’t want to lose that or have no range of motion in my forehead and eyebrow area.
As soon as I walked into Bellissimo Plastic Surgery and Medi Spa and met my nurse injector, Pamela, I immediately felt at ease. Pamela was not only warm and inviting but professional. While we walked back to a private room she asked me to explain to her my goals for the day’s treatment and my desired results.
Pamela did an initial scan of my “trouble areas” and explained to me that she would recommend 32 units of Botox between my forehead lines, in between my eyes, and my crows feet. I told her that during my previous experience I had less injected and I felt very strongly about a natural appearance. She assured me that she would be injecting small amounts into each area and that her goal was for me to still have lots of motion and movement but a fresher and smoother appearance. This was music to my ears considering my last experience was somewhat one-sided, meaning I loved the result but I did notice my motion and expressiveness was very limited, a concern I had voiced to my last injector. If I could have the best of both worlds, I’d be extremely satisfied.
Pamela has a way about her that made me trust her completely. Her knowledge of the anatomy of the face and how each muscle of the face interacts and connects with others was definitely a welcomed and unique experience. I truly felt I was in the hands of a medical professional and any anticipation I had melted away during the consultation. Pamela had me sit back and relax while she prepared the Botox injectables.
One may think that getting Botox injections is such a routine, fast recovery and a non-invasive treatment that one experience would be virtually the same as the next. I, myself, did not find this to be true. My experience at Bellissimo was personal, tailored to me, and I didn’t feel like just another patient my nurse injector was seeing that day. She listened to me as I discussed my desired results and she explained how she intended to treat my problem areas.
Two weeks after my appointment, the full results had settled in. I’m still able to express and have motion in my forehead, but now I have a smoother appearance and my fine lines and wrinkles are less noticeable. Overall, Pamela gave me a fresher, glowier, naturally-more-youthful look.
