January 2021 Announcements: Plastic Surgery Trends and Predictions for the New Year
Posted December 20, 2020
2020 has been a year that tested each of us in different ways. Many of us have had to learn to live our lives from within the four walls of our home; kids attending virtual schooling, working from home, and time spent away from extended family and friends. Many of us had more time than ever to focus on ourselves and think about those things we have always wanted to do but have not had the time, whether that be tackling the home improvement project we have been putting off or finding time for some much-needed self-care. Patients have come to us after hours of zoom calls and self-reflection, ready for change.
Through all that we have gone through this year, many of us have reevaluated what matters to us and what we want out of our own lives. Although plastic surgery may seem frivolous at a time like this, for many of our patients 2020 has been time for self-reflection and personal growth. The ability to address change and have control of our own lives is vital to our well-being.
What do we see for 2021?
Breast Surgery:
Breast Surgery remains a popular procedure and will continue its desirability into the New Year. Breast Augmentations typically rank in the top 5 procedures and 2021 will be no different. The goal is to create fullness in a woman’s breasts or to recreate the fullness that was lost due to normal aging and/or pregnancy. If the patient is healthy and their breast tissue is fully developed, they can be a candidate for this procedure.
Body Contouring:
Procedures such as Liposuction, a Tummy Tuck, or Gynecomastia will increase in 2021 as patients have had time this year to slow down and re-examine themselves. Many times patients have been considering a procedure for years but have been unable to act upon it due to work constraints and the potential recovery process. Patients now have more flexibility with their schedules and can recover while working from home.
Medi Spa and Aesthetic Center Treatments:
The Medi Spa will see an increase in minimally invasive, anti-aging procedures. Injectable fillers continue to focus on the lips and cheeks but now include a sculpted jawline and chin. 2021 will focus on facial balance and will include the full face using reasonable proportions. With the increased interest in lasers and anti-aging devices and availability, we will see an increase in the desire to prevent aging using non-surgical services. Treatments including radiofrequency Microneedling, CO2 lasers, and hydrofacials are used to minimize fine lines, tighten skin, address skin discolorations, skin texture, and tone. The goal with antiaging being a refreshed, youthful glow to the skin that requires minimal maintenance once the desired result has been reached.
Facial Procedures:
Zoom meetings have become the new normal as far as business meetings go so it is no wonder our faces have become an area to be focused on in 2021. Procedures involving the face, eyes, and neck are going to see an increase although a screen camera leaves little space to recover privately. Upper and lower eyelids are the first thing focused on when looking at your screen reflection and this is one of the first places we age.
How to Reach Your 2021 Aesthetic Goals
The first step when considering any procedure is research. Research the procedure you are interested in, research your surgeon, his practice, and the operating facility they use. The second step involves the consultation, an ability to connect with the staff and surgeon are key. Understanding both your goals and desired results will help the surgeon determine an individualized treatment plan. The next step is understanding your recovery process and available assistance at home. Schedule your surgery once you feel comfortable and prepare to embrace change. 2020 may have tilted our world but hang on tight as it begins to right itself.
