Kybella vs. Submental Liposuction
Posted March 30, 2017
A common complaint, by both men and women, is the dreaded double chin. There are two procedures used to correct this, one is surgical, the other is not. Kybella is the only FDA approved injectable used to destroy fat cells under the chin. This is a non- surgical approach to achieve an improved profile and jawline. Submental liposuction is an out-patient surgical procedure that will correct a double chin and restore balance to the jawline as well.
If you are unhappy with your profile, here are the three main points Dr. Antimarino discusses with his patients to determine their best treatment plan.
-
Recovery time
Kybella requires 3-4 visits, at least 6 weeks apart. After your treatment, the jawline may be swollen and tender with mild bruising for about 3-4 days. Patients may return to work in approximately 1-2 days. Submental liposuction is a onetime surgical procedure with minimal swelling and bruising that may last 4-5 days. Patients with this procedure may return to work in approximately 3-4 days. Both treatments may require a chin strap to be worn depending on the amount of fat removed and the elasticity of the skin.
-
Cost
Kybella injections will take multiple visits with a cost per treatment. Submental liposuction is a onetime cost to the patient that includes both surgery center, anesthesia, and surgeon’s fee.
-
Results
Both procedures have long term results. Kybella may take multiple treatments to reach the desired result but once achieved it is long lasting. Submental liposuction has immediate results post operatively.
