Mommy Makeover
Posted August 19, 2016
The “Mommy Makeover” is a term that is used to described a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to restore a woman’s pre-pregnancy shape and addresses those areas that have been directly affected through child birth. The surgical procedures involved typically include a tummy tuck and a breast procedure such as augmentation, reduction, or lift. Liposuction may also be included to help with re-contouring areas such as the hips, thighs, flank or back. The most common combination is a breast augmentation with tummy tuck. For many women the “Mommy Makeover” restores self-confidence as it helps to return them to their pre-pregnancy shape and allows them to feel comfortable with their appearance.
A great candidate for a “mommy makeover” is a woman with:
- Breasts that appear uneven or sagging with decreased volume or fullness
- Loose skin on the stomach that does not improve with diet and exercise
- Thickened, undefined waistline
- C-section scar with overhanging fat or skin
- Pockets of fat to thighs, abdomen, waist
A “Mommy Makeover” candidate should also be 3-6 months’ post-delivery and finished breast feeding. Pregnancy or weight gain after surgery can compromise a patient’s final results. Each procedure is specific to the patient so a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will allow you to discuss your objectives and review desired outcomes.
Surgery is done as an outpatient procedure in an accredited surgical center. The combination of procedures will account for the time involved and recovery time associated with the patient’s surgery. Assistance with small children in the home may be needed for a few days during your recovery. All of your questions and concerns should be addressed with your surgeon and answered during your surgical consultation.
