Mommy Makeovers Are Not Just for Moms

Mommy Makeover is a catchy term used in marketing to define a combination of procedures typically involving a tummy procedure and a breast procedure. This combination is actually very common for women, whether they are mothers or not. These procedures address the two most common areas of every woman’s body which are mostly affected by hormonal changes, changes in weight, aging, and lifestyle.
A breast procedure that addresses adding volume, lifting, or reducing the size of the breast is usually combined with a procedure to remove excess skin and/or fatty tissue, such as liposuction or a Tummy Tuck. Combining procedures can save time and money and allow for one recovery process. Combination procedures are safe and are becoming more popular as patients want one surgical process to address their areas of concern. This also allows for one recovery period. The combination procedures are less disruptive to work and family life as they allow for limited patient downtime.
During a patient’s consultation, the surgeon should discuss a treatment plan designed to best address the patient’s concerns. A physical examination of the breasts allows the surgeon to assess the tone of the breast tissue, skin tone, the ratio of excess skin to breast tissue, and if actual sagging is present. Physical examination of the abdominal wall allows an assessment of the amount of excess skin vs. excess fatty tissue, skin tone, whether a hernia is present and if there is a component of diastasis recti (a separation between the abdominal wall muscles). Once the face-to-face examination has been completed, the surgeon can then determine a surgical plan to correct each area. The surgeon will also be able to determine if combining procedures to reach your goals would be effective and safe.
