New Breast Augmentation Trends
Posted October 08, 2018
In 2017, over a quarter million breast augmentation procedures were performed all over the United States. Times may be changing, but breast augmentation procedures are still among the most popular surgical procedures. A large reason why this particular surgery has maintained its popularity is that it has changed with the times. Eligible breast augmentation candidates are now given the option of gel implants that give their breast a fuller, softer appearance, as well as some other interesting shifts in breast augmentation trends.
Size Matters
About 20 years ago, women preferred their breast implants to be much larger than their natural breast size. In 2018, more women are interested in a natural and lifted look. Subtlety has been a common trend in breast augmentation this year. A huge reason for this is that a greater number of women want to balance having a fuller breast shape but also remain active. It’s hard to stay active when overly large breast implants are inserted.
At Bellissimo Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh, Dr. Jeffrey Antimarino strives to be your partner in defining you. His goal is to work with you to help you find comfort with an implant size that fits your natural look.
Best Combination: Augmentation and Lift
Women used to fear to combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation. The risk of scarring kept many from exploring both procedures. However, combining a breast lift with a breast augmentation is as safe as a single-procedure surgery, according to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
With the combination of breast surgeries, women experience less scarring, less removal of skin, and a reduced overall recovery time.
If you’re interested in either or both of these surgeries, schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Antimarino. A consultation is a great opportunity to ask questions about combining both procedures and the recovery time around both.
More Women Are Educated on Implants
Up until recent years, many women weren’t aware that implants would eventually need to be replaced while others thought that implants needed to be replaced after 10 years. Saline implants last, on average, 10-15 years while silicone implants can last 20+ years.
Women, especially patients of Bellissimo Plastic Surgery, are becoming more educated on their implants and how to monitor them. Women should be evaluated yearly or every other year after ten years. In fact, Bellissimo has launched The Bellissimo Breast Implant Education & Upgrade Program to help educate and assist women with implants that are more than 10 years old.
The Education portion of the Program includes a free consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Antimarino, to determine the integrity of the implants and discuss the patient’s satisfaction with their implants. Click here for more information.
