Juvéderm
Juvéderm is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid binds water molecules together, giving a fuller appearance to the area being treated. Juvéderm is used to add volume to areas of the face that have volume loss or are thinning, such as lips and folds around the mouth and chin.
How do I prepare for my Juvéderm treatment?
1. Is Your Provider Adequately Trained?
When considering Juvéderm or any other cosmetic procedure, we encourage you to do your research. It is important to know the qualifications of your injector. They should be able to answer any questions you might have about products and treatments to address the areas you are concerned with. Your procedure should be done in an accredited medical spa that is clean and well-maintained. Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory products such as Motrin to decrease your risk for bleeding and bruising. You may also want to avoid alcohol and caffeine as these may also contribute to swelling. Arnica can be taken a few days prior to treatment to help minimize any bruising.
2. Be Comfortable with Your Provider
Your provider should educate you on your procedure and answer any questions you may have prior to beginning your treatment. A patient should feel comfortable asking about the frequency in which the provider has performed the procedure and if they can view previous patient photos. Communication with your provider is key to achieving the results you desire.
Know What to Expect:
1. Does it hurt?
The truth is that everyone has a different threshold of pain. Some patients have no pain at all, while others describe the pain as minimal. The good news is a topical anesthetic and/or ice packs can be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure which will help minimize any possible discomfort.
2. How long does Juvéderm last?
Juvéderm will typically last between 6-9 months. The longevity can depend on several factors such as how fast your body metabolizes the product. If you have a higher metabolic rate the filler may not last as long. Product longevity can also be affected by how often you animate the area that is being treated. Patients should maintain a healthy lifestyle, staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest to allow for optimum results to their area of treatment.
