What is submental regional fat and how do I get rid of it?

When it comes to correcting a double chin, liposuction is a viable treatment however, non-surgical submental injection is often the preferred way to go.

While many patients are resorting to CoolSculpting to remove a double chin – an injectable procedure tends to be preferred as it takes less time for the results to be fully visible.

Submental fat can be influenced by genetics, hormones, and of course weight. Younger clients typically do well because they have better skin elasticity, and are less likely to have excess, sagging skin under the chin.

Kybella double chin treatment

Fat dissolving injectables like Kybella are injected directly into the area being treated. When Kybella is injected into the double chin area, it can dissolve fat cells resulting in a better contour to this area. This typically requires 2-3 treatments to reach the desired outcome.

For each treatment, our medical provider uses between one and three vials of Kybella depending on how much submental fat is present. A numbing cream is used prior to the procedure to ensure a patient’s comfort.

The aftermath of dissolving double chin fat

After the quick injection process, patients may experience some tenderness and swelling. The swelling usually peaks at 24 hours post-treatment but can last up to a week or two. Inflammation can be frustrating but in this case, it means that the Kybella is working to dissolve fat fast.

Although full results may not be visible for a week or so, the results are long-lasting. These fat cells do not recreate once they are dissolved.
