Tear Trough Augmentation: A non-surgical injectable treatment for under-eye hollows and dark circles
A common problem for patients as they age can be seen under the eyes, around the tear trough area. This includes under-eye hollows and hereditary dark circles. Over time, the fatty tissue under the lower eyelid and upper cheek area may decrease. The skin and muscles of the lower lid slowly lose their elasticity and no longer remain firm. After time it can sometimes feel that no amount of makeup or product usage can help hide this sign of aging.
A tear trough augmentation is used to improve the lower eyelid and cheek area. It does so by adding volume to the area. This can result in a softer, younger look and may even help lessen the dark pigmentation or discoloration under the eyes.
How to get rid of under-eye hollowness
Eye hollows and dark circles under the eyes can happen to anyone. Sometimes they are genetically inherited, but sometimes they are caused by the following:
- Allergies
- Eczema
- Chronic fatigue
- Pigmentation issues
- Sun exposure
- Aging
If you have hollowness under the eyes you know how hard it can be to camouflage or make it appear less noticeable. While you can try products like an under-eye mask or press a plumping cream to your lower eye every day, for longer lasting results you may want to consider a non-surgical procedure such as a tear trough augmentation.
There’s an injectable procedure to fill those under-eye hollows
If you’ve ever looked into ways to reduce your dark circles or under-eye hollows, chances are you’ve already considered a surgical procedure such as a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). This surgical procedure takes about 1-2 hours and the downtime is approximately 2-3 weeks.
At Bellissimo Plastic Surgery & Medi Spa, we also offer a non-surgical solution using injectable fillers for under the eyes. Because there is minimal facial movement in this area of the face, dermal fillers typically last about a year, which is a bit longer than injectables used in other areas. The treatment itself only lasts around 20 minutes.
Treatment for under-eye hollows and dark circles
If you are someone who has suffered from under eye discoloration or a hollow appearance under the eyes you would be a great candidate for a tear trough augmentation. A numbing cream is used prior to treatment which results in minimal discomfort during the procedure. A small cannula is used to inject filler under the eye to increase fullness and decrease the appearance of dark circles.
Non-surgical tear trough recovery
Our aesthetic providers recommend waiting 24-hours before starting up strenuous activity or exercise following the treatment. It is advised that patients wait up to two weeks before chemical peels or facials. The use of cold compresses or ice will reduce swelling and minor bruising that may happen. Side effects will dissipate over the first week.
