Microneedling

Microneedling therapy is a process that is also referred to as “collagen induction therapy”. It is a minimally invasive treatment used to rejuvenate the skin.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling is used to improve skin texture and firmness as well as create a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. It can smooth fine lines, minimize wrinkles, and correct minor skin imperfections.

What should I expect with this treatment?

This treatment may be used on all skin types. A topical numbing cream is applied approximately 45 minutes prior to your treatment to minimize discomfort. A dermapen, a small, hand-held device that contains fine needles, is used to create tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body to create new collagen and elastin as part of the healing response. Microneedling may be done to the face, neck, arms, and decollate. Professional skin needling is considered a safe skin treatment when performed by a medical Aesthetician.

What should I expect post-treatment?

Patients may have a slightly flushed, pink tone to their skin that may appear as a sunburn and mild swelling. This may last 24 hours with normal skin, slightly longer with sensitive skin. Patients are instructed to avoid makeup for 24 hours post-treatment and stay away from topical products with irritating agents until skin is recovered. Patients are also encouraged to wear SPF. Within several days patients will notice a smoother, brighter appearance but the full effects may not occur until months later.

How many treatments are required for microneedling?

Treatments can be safely done every 4-6 weeks until desired results are reached. Typically, patients require 4-6 treatments for scarring. Patients are encouraged to return every 3 months for ideal skin maintenance.
