Procedure of the Month: Brow Lift
Posted December 28, 2021
The “Zoom Boom” is a term used to address the increase in cosmetic procedures associated with the pandemic and our need to communicate via virtual channels such as Zoom. The face, eyes, chin, and of course the brow, have all seen an increase in surgical and non-surgical numbers this past year. The upper face and eyelids have been front and center as we put on a mask or engage in virtual communication.
A “Botox Brow Lift” is the first line of defense against an aging face. Botox or other neurotoxins can address the outer part of the brow and minimally elevate it to give a more alert, awake appearance. By addressing the muscles that lower the brow, we can allow the muscles that elevate the brows to work more efficiently. This is done by injecting a small amount of neurotoxin into the depressor muscles, blocking their action and allowing the elevator muscles to work unopposed. Injections are quick, and results can be seen within a few days to two weeks.
If the brows have sagged more than a few millimeters, then a neurotoxin may not be enough for adequate treatment, and a Brow Lift may be the best option. Depending upon what areas of the brow need to be addressed, an endoscopic brow lift or temporal Brow Lift may be performed. The endoscopic brow lift targets the outer section of the brow to elevate it to a normal anatomical position. A temporal brow lift targets the very end of the brow and the skin along the temple. The endoscopic brow lift is done in the operating room under general anesthesia. It is done as an outpatient and requires approximately one week of downtime. A temporal brow lift can be performed under local anesthesia in a surgical center or an office setting as an outpatient and has minimal downtime. Results are typically seen almost immediately. A Brow Lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with eyelid or facelift procedures. A consultation with Dr. Antimarino will determine the best option for each patient as there is not a universal solution to address the brows. Our brows help to frame our faces. They can elevate our expressions, enhance our femininity, and help us look rested and refreshed, so choose your surgeon accordingly.
