Fat Transfer to Face
What is a fat transfer to the face?
A fat transfer to the face can be done to enhance facial volume. Fat transfer is the process of removing fat from one area of the body and transferring it to another area by harvesting fat using a liposuction technique. Most commonly the fat is taken from the abdomen or hips. The transfer of fat is done using small cannulas to the designated site. With any fat transfer, a patient needs to be well educated on the possibility of fat reabsorption and the chance they would need a touch-up procedure to achieve their desired results. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks for the transferred fat to sustain viability.

Surgery
This procedure can be done under local, sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the amount of fat required and designated transfer areas on the patient. This is done as an outpatient procedure. Transferring fat to the face typically takes around an hour to complete.
After Surgery
After surgery, the patient may experience mild swelling and minimal bruising to the surgical site. There is no postoperative dressing and patients may shower the day after surgery. Most patients may return to work in 3-5 days and can resume exercise after a minimum of 2 weeks. Patients are routinely seen within 4-5 days of their surgery by Dr. Antimarino for evaluation.
