Get Summer Ready with Bellissimo!
Posted February 25, 2019
Winter is ending and spring is fast upon us. Body-baring fashion is hitting the stores and bathing suits are out on display. This is typically the time of year we start thinking about our summer wardrobe and vacation time by the pool. It is also the time people start to think about getting in shape for the season. Diet and exercise can address some of our “problem areas” but sometimes a cosmetic procedure may be the best solution. Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, and an Abdominoplasty, or “Tummy Tuck,” are a few of the most common procedures done this time of year.
Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation is not simply about making a larger breast for a woman. This procedure is about creating the shape and volume that fits each woman’s unique body type. It should be individualized to create or re-create a fuller, more balanced, natural look. A woman has a choice between silicone and saline implants. Many surgeons prefer silicone vs. saline as it gives the breast a softer feel and lasts approximately twice as long as a saline implant. The silicone implant used with an augmentation is safe and has been back on the market since 2007. A breast augmentation procedure is done under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical center. Patients are generally back to work within a week for most jobs and may resume exercising within 3 weeks. Full activity is resumed within 6 weeks of surgery.
Liposuction
Liposuction is used to shape and contour various areas of the body. These are usually areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. The most common areas for liposuction are the hips, abdomen, and thighs, although under the chin, arms, and ankles are increasing in popularity. Liposuction is performed through tiny incisions using a micro-canula to remove the excess fat. This procedure has minimal downtime with most patients returning to work within days and back to exercise within 1-2 weeks. Compression is beneficial post-operatively for the first 3-4 weeks. Although a physical change can be seen immediately, the final results can take 6-8 months.
Abdominoplasty
An Abdominoplasty, or “Tummy Tuck,” is a contouring procedure of the abdominal wall which allows for excess skin to be removed and the muscles of the abdominal wall to be tightened for a flatter, more shapely stomach. For many women, this can restore her abdomen to her pre-pregnancy shape. A Tummy Tuck is most common in patients that have lost weight or have had multiple pregnancies. The incisions are placed low on the abdominal wall so they can be covered by bathing suits and clothing. The downtime for this procedure is approximately 2 weeks with patients returning to some exercising in 3 weeks. Most patients are back to all activity within 6-8 weeks.
