This or That: Liposuction or Lipo AI

Liposuction is a contouring procedure that can correct areas of fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. Dr. Antimarino likes to combine two methods of Liposuction, Vaser and power-assisted Liposuction, into the same procedure. The Vaser cannula emits ultrasound waves to break up the fat, and then he follows with the power-assisted cannula to aspirate or remove the fatty deposits. Power-assisted Liposuction uses a hollow cannula that vibrates to help remove the broken-down fat left behind by the Vaser cannula. This creates a smoother, more even removal of fat to produce a more enhanced contouring result.
LipoAI is also a contouring procedure that utilizes a laser to break up the fatty deposits, followed by a hollow cannula that aspirates the broken-down fat. The laser tip breaks down the fat with heat, which can also result in some skin tightening.
Both methods provide excellent results, and both can be used all over the body. Typically, Dr. Antimarino will use the Vaser/power-assisted technique in the surgery center with either general anesthesia or IV sedation. He will use the LipoAI technique in a procedure room in the office using oral sedation.
During a for body contouring, the patient and Dr. Antimarino discuss the areas of concern and the patient’s goals. Depending upon the conversation and the physical examination, Dr. Antimarino will decide which modality may be the best option for the patient. He favors the Vaser/power-assisted procedure for moderate to large volumes of aspiration and patients wanting to undergo anesthesia. Dr. Antimarino will choose the LipoAI procedure for small to moderate areas of concern and with patients that are comfortable with oral sedation.
