Treatments for Men

From TL in Shadyside:
I am a guy in my 40’s and I would like to know if there is anything you offer that might improve my physical appearance? I hear that more men are getting plastic surgery and I’d like to know more about procedures that are completely focused on men?
Dr. A: Thank you for your question. You express an increasingly popular concern among men in their 40’s and early 50’s. From a non-surgical perspective, Botox is very effective in softening or eliminating lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet area. While the goal with women is typically to eliminate all lines, I recommend only softening the lines in men to maintain a masculine appearance.
Dermal fillers for the cheek area can also provide a subtle rejuvenating look for men by restoring volume to an area that frequently thins as we age.
There is essentially no downtime with these non-surgical procedures and men may resume exercising in 24-48 hours.
From a surgical perspective, men at your age may also be interested in something that has recently been coined the “Daddy Do Over”. This essentially consists of a combination of procedures that treat aging of the face, abdominal concerns and/or male breast tissue. Unlike a Mommy Makeover, which typically addresses a woman’s breasts and belly, the Daddy Do Over can be any procedure for a man to treat aging or contouring, including eyelid surgery which can subtly remove the tired, aged look. Men in their 50’s can also benefitting from a facelift procedure combined with an eyelid procedure if they haven’t previously had eyelid surgery. Downtime for these procedures is typically 2 weeks off of work and 3 weeks away from physical activity. The incisions generally heal to a point they are barely perceptible depending on the patient.
