Breast Lift

Procedure Process
& Ideal Candidates

For many women, the effects of the natural aging process, pregnancy, and weight loss can be profound on the volume and skin of their breasts. Many women can suffer a loss of volume to their breast tissue, especially in the upper part of their breasts, and decreased elasticity of the skin. Over time this can lead to gradual drooping, or ptosis, of the breast. A Breast Lift or mastopexy, is usually recommended to women not only to restore a more youthful and desired breast shape, but also to re-establish the proper position of the breasts. In some cases, a woman can combine this procedure with an augmentation to achieve optimal results in the appearance of their breasts. There are four main types of Breast Lifts depending on the degree of sagging (ptosis).

What To Consider

Schedule Your Breast
Lift Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Antimarino will walk you through a series of questions to determine your concerns, goals and expectations. Dr. Antimarino will discuss with you any medical conditions you may have or treatments you are going through, what medications you may be taking, and any previous surgeries. Be prepared to discuss outcomes of a breast lift procedure and to have the doctor take photos for a more accurate evaluation.

Pre-Op Care

Depending upon a patient’s age and medical condition there may be preoperative laboratory testing required. This will need to be completed within 2-4 weeks of surgery and is typically covered by the patient’s insurance. Patients are asked to maintain their usual activity level and body weight from the time of consultation to their surgical date. Patients are required to stop smoking, vaping, and the use of nicotine patches, gum, and marijuana one month prior to surgery and a minimum of one month post-surgery. Patients are also required to stop using weight loss medications 2 weeks prior to their surgery. Surgery may be canceled if guidelines are not followed.

Breasts do not get smaller however, the shape changes.  The improvement in the shape may result in a different bra size.

Most scars will remain pink for the first 6-8 weeks and then slowly fade over the next several months.

Depending upon what type of mastopexy/lift is performed, the scars are different lengths.  Dr. Antimarino will show you exactly where the scars will be when reviewing the procedure in your consultation.

Patients are sent home from surgery wearing a soft post op bra.  A sports bra is generally worn between 4-6 weeks post surgery.  After this time, a patient can begin choosing any style bra that fits and may even choose not to wear a bra for short time periods, including sleeping.

The average patient may return to work within  5-7 days from their date of surgery. However, patients with a more physically demanding job may need extra time off of work to heal properly.

A patient can return to light exercise in 3 weeks.  This includes walking, elliptical, stairmaster, cycling and spinning. It may also include light weights except to the chest area. Patients may resume full activity after 6 weeks. Patients may not lift more than 15 pounds for the first three weeks.

In most cases the results for a breast lift are longstanding. This may change due to weight fluctuations, hormone changes, and pregnancy.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Surgery & Post-Op Care

A breast lift is a routine outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. The procedure can last 1-3 hours, depending upon the type of lift required and whether augmentation is performed simultaneously.

Patients are sent home with a light dressing and a post-op compression bra. Patients will wear a sports bra for approximately 3-4 weeks after surgery. Most patients return to work within one week and most may resume their normal exercise routine within 3 weeks.
