Labiaplasty
Procedure Process
& Ideal Candidates
Many women suffer from pain, irritation, and even open abrasions along their vaginal wall. Most commonly, this is due to an enlarged or elongated labia minora. A labiaplasty procedure is designed to remove the excess tissue, thereby reducing the size of the labia minora. The result of the reduction is reduced chafing and irritation.

Schedule Your Labiaplasty Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. Antimarino will walk you through a series of questions to determine your concerns, goals and expectations. Dr. Antimarino will discuss with you any medical conditions you may have or treatments you are going through, what medications you may be taking, and any previous surgeries. Be prepared to discuss outcomes of a labiaplasty procedure.
Pre-Op Care
Depending on a patient’s age and medical condition, preoperative laboratory testing may be required. This must be completed within 2-4 weeks of surgery and is typically covered by the patient’s insurance. Patients are asked to maintain their usual activity level and body weight from the time of consultation to their surgical date. Patients are required to stop smoking, vaping, and the use of nicotine patches, gum, and marijuana one month prior to surgery and a minimum of one-month post-surgery. Patients are also required to stop using weight loss medications 2 weeks prior to their surgery. Surgery may be canceled if guidelines are not followed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape or reduce the size of the labia minora (inner lips). It is typically done to address aesthetic concerns, discomfort during activities like exercise or intercourse, or to correct asymmetry.
Who is a good candidate for labiaplasty?
Good candidates for labiaplasty are women who experience physical discomfort or emotional distress due to enlarged or asymmetrical labia minora. Candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the procedure.
What happens during a labiaplasty procedure?
Excess tissue is removed from the labia minora to achieve the desired size and shape. The surgery is typically performed under IV sedation and the specific technique used depends on the patient’s anatomy and goals.
Is labiaplasty painful?
Labiaplasty is performed under IV sedation, so you will not feel pain during the procedure. After surgery, some discomfort, swelling, and bruising are normal, but these symptoms can be managed with pain medications prescribed by your surgeon.
What are the risks and potential complications of labiaplasty?
Risks of labiaplasty include bleeding, infection, scarring, changes in sensation, and dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome. Your surgeon will discuss these risks with you during the consultation and provide guidance on how to minimize them.
How long is the recovery period after labiaplasty?
Recovery time varies from person to person but generally involves wearing a sanitary pad and using cold packs to reduce swelling. Most patients can resume normal activities, including work, within a few days to a week. Strenuous activities and sexual intercourse should be avoided for several weeks as the area heals.
When will I see the final results of labiaplasty?
While some initial improvement may be visible after the swelling subsides, final results typically become noticeable over the following weeks to months as the tissues heal and settle. Your surgeon will provide guidance on post-operative care and when to expect optimal results.

RATEMD
Surgery & Post-Op Care
A labiaplasty procedure is performed under sedation in an outpatient, accredited surgery center. The downtime after surgery is usually several days. Most patients resume exercising in approximately 2-3 weeks. There are dissolving sutures placed that will dissolve on their own around the 10th day post operatively. The incisions tend to heal without any detectable scarring.
